Check out what the San Francisco Chronicle is saying about Common Sense Media -- right on the front page:
"Remaining nonpartisan is necessary to being relevant in this politically charged media culture, even if that requires Common Sense editors to sometimes check their Bay Area sensibilities about issues like homosexuality and progressive politics. But Common Sense's staff members haven't tamped down the tone of their 5,200 ratings, which are more snarky than schoolmarmish."

Living in Sausalito, right over the GG bridge from S.F. I agree with your mission to remain nonpartisan - to reach and serve more people. It means I can point family members to this site... some of whom do not share my political/personal views yet we are all close... and to recommend your idea-packed site, Common Sense in a tip at SavvyHer. here's to involving the widest range of people in your community.

Taking a balanced, real-world perspective that media is NOT going away, and is not the big bad wolf is equally wise.
The free-thinking, free-choice part of the equation unites CSM and Shaping Youth as sister orgs, earning both the respect of parents AND kids who see we’re not out to squash all the fun. To me, that’s just as key as our nonpartisan policies.
Clearly, Shaping Youth differs from CSM in that we’re actively revealing motivations used within our industry through strong counter-marketing tactics. When kids can see ALL sides of the marketing and media mix by laying out the facts, content and context…then we’ve leveled the playing field for kids to think for themselves.
Shaping Youth’s ‘don’t let the media define you" stance fosters critical thinking skills, because we feel there’s a BIG difference between kids consuming media and kids being consumed BY media.
With kids’ new 360 degree media saturation, we feel the ‘help or harm’ issue is one of ethics and accountability that media producers need to factor in from the get-go...
