Tips for Tuning Out

The kids are watching too much TV.
They're watching on TVs in their bedrooms. They're watching in the kitchen while eating breakfast. They're watching in the car while parents drive them to school. In fact, according to a recent study, most kids are watching three hours a day -- an hour more than is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
This means in a year, they're watching over a 1,000 hours of television. If they keep up these habits for a decade, that will mean they've spent 445 days glued to the tube. That's 445 days that they've tuned out social exchanges, 445 days they've missed playing outside, 445 days they've failed to learn how to interact with the natural world.
Parents, it's time to put your family's media diet on a diet. Click here to read more about the study from the Annenberg Policy Center in Philadelphia -- and get seven expert tips for turning off the tube.
