Red states, blue states, elephants, and donkeys: there’s no doubt about it, election season is in full swing. And while this time of year might be heaven for political junkies, all of the hubbub can leave some kids wondering just what, exactly, is going on?
To help parents introduce their kids to the political system, Common Sense Media recommends the following Web sites, TV shows, and movies:

Particularly for parents of girls (who often feel invisible in the media when it comes to politics & 'seeing themselves' represented) I'd add this vital nonpartisan resource:

It's imperative that kids are able to aspire to positions of power by seeing smart women on a global scale represented in the media regardless of 'red or blue' state points of view. (this is similar in concept to 'seejane.org' within the political arena)
Tweens/teens particularly need to hear voices of knowledge coming from BOTH genders, as it skews their worldview of politics as being only for grey-haired white guys. The last thing we need is a dismissive, unengaged, apathetic group of soon-to-be-voters that feel invisible or unheard...
