MTV Movie Awards Show Offers Little for Families

OK, so last night's MTV Movie Awards weren't exactly family-friendly fare. But that's about what you'd expect from a show that added Sexiest Performance as one of this year's new categories (Jessica Alba thanked "all the perverts who voted for me" after winning for her Sin City striptease).
But if your teens are bugging you to rent the winners this weekend, here's what you should know before you go:
Best Movie: Wedding Crashers
What we said: This raucous, boisterous comedy isn't for kids.
What it's about: Divorce mediators John (Owen Wilson) and Jeremy (Vince Vaughn) are cocky, careless, fast-talking hustlers. By day they counsel angry or otherwise miserable couples, but once "wedding season" starts, they attend weddings under fake names in order to eat hors d'oeuvres, drink champagne, and meet women.
Our rating: PAUSE, 17+, 3 stars
Best Performance: Jake Gyllenhaal in Brokeback Mountain
What we said: Mature, emotionally complicated film -- not for kids.
What it's about: A thoughtful, lyrical, eventually frustrating examination of two men's romance over many years. Though Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) never call themselves "gay" or "queer," they do love one another and share a sexual relationship.
Our rating: PAUSE, 17+, 3 stars
Best Comedic Performance: Steve Carell in The 40-Year Old Virgin
What we said: A one-joke sex comedy that is not for kids.
What it's about: Embarrassed that he's still a virgin at 40, nerdy Andy (Steve Carell) only confesses to his electronics store co-workers -- David (Paul Rudd), Jay (Weeds' Romany Malco), and Cal (Seth Rogen) -- when they guess the (obvious) truth during a late-night card game. They make it their mission to help him "get laid."
Our rating: PAUSE, 17+, 3 stars
Best Villain: Hayden Christensen in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith
What we said: Lively, but also involves violent fighting, which might worry younger kids.
What it's about: REVENGE OF THE SITH shows how young, ambitious, idealistic Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen, still rather stiff) is convinced the Dark Side of the Force will benefit his community and Padmé (Natalie Portman). They've married in secret (as a Jedi, he's supposed to remain single); to make matters even dicier, she's now pregnant with twins Luke and Leia.
Our rating: PAUSE, 11+, 3 stars
Best Fight: Angelina Jolie vs. Brad Pitt in Mr. & Mrs. Smith
What we said: Married assassins are contracted to kill each other. Not for young ones.
What it's about: The premise is nonsense (married super-assassins have no idea of the other's occupation) and the resolution is absurd (they reconcile to fight their cutthroat employers). In between, you see the gorgeous John (Brad Pitt) and Jane (Angelina Jolie) wrestle, argue, leap, dash, and shoot big guns at each other.
Our rating: PAUSE, 14+, 3 stars

I caught the beginning, and though the whole "Jessica Alba is the most searched person"/foot fetish joke didn't offend me as much as it probably should, it sure wasn't funny. Poor Jessica; she can't act and she can't even host an awards show well.

Well, I wouldn't say "poor" exactly.

Actually (sorry for the double post!) I really liked 40-yr-old virgin. True, not for kids, but it's certainly not one-joke and it really has a lot of heart. For adults, of course.

Oh wow, can we please avoid thanking the perverts?
