Give Us Your Book Recs!

SummerBooks.jpg

Nothing beats a good summer read, but sometimes finding that perfect beach book for your kids can be a hassle.

The New Moon magazine Girls' Editorial Board have given us their list of favorite summer books for kids 12 and up...but we want to hear from you, too!

What are your favorite summer books for kids, and how did you find them? Did you read them as a kid, or did you read them to your kids? Who are some of your favorite characters from children's books?

A great book for kids who are a little closer to middle-school age is The Midwife's Apprentice. It's short, but very sweet, and teaches kids about self-confidence and overcoming adversity. This author's other book, Catherine Called Birdy, is also good, and I believe won some kind of Newbury award (as did the Midwife's Apprentice).

Any book by Louis Sachar. Any of them. Great stuff no matter how old you are; as long as you can read the words, you'll get the humor.

Teenage girls love tamora pierce books - the alanna books - song of the lioness quartet. so good! a little, er, sexy, but so exciting and fun. the other series aren't quite as good but are still very entertaining and girl-powery.

A very topical book is the Uglies. Good commentary on our obsession to look young forever. I am old enough to remember when lines and creases on an elder's face with interesting!

A Good Christian book series is the Dragons in our Midst series, an AMAZING book series with action and a Biblical lesson. A must read for all teens! There are 4 books, 1. Raising Dragons 2. The Candlestone 3. Circles of Seven 4. Tears of a Dragon I reccomend them!
