In Wake of 'Grand Theft Auto' Scandal,
Game Developers Put 'Gangsta Genre' Projects on Lockdown

ViolentGamesLockDown.jpg

At last year's E3 video game convention, "Gansta Genre" games looked like all the rage. Hoping to capitalize on the (frightening) success of the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise, developers introduced such heart-warming titles as "Crime Life: Gang Wars" and "25 to Life."

However, this year's E3 convention, which concluded last week, saw substatially fewer "Gansta" games being touted by developers -- likely due in large part to the GTA "Hot Coffee" scandal and poor sales of the titles introduced at last year's convention, as CNN Money reports.

But lest you think the genre is dead, we have some bad news: "Grand Theft Auto IV" is already scheduled to hit shelves in October 2007 for both XBox360 and PlayStation3.

And judging by the previous offerings in the series (see our reviews here, here, and here), GTA IV isn't going to win any medals for kid-friendly entertainment.

Can I just say, "like, duh!"? When a video game is named after a criminal felony, it should be obvious that it's not kid-friendly. Memo to CSM: not all video games are for kids. The average age of a video gamer is 30 years old. Until you guys apologize for your sweeping generalization that all female video game characters are prostitutes and censure Jack Thompson publicly, I wouldn't take anything you guys say seriously.

And how's that anti-video game law in California coming? It's about to be ruled unconstitutional. How does it feel for CSM to be indirectly responsible for wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on such an unconstitutional law?

"Like, duh!?!"

Took the words right out of my mouth.

We have video games for children...and games for adults. Really. Come on.
